Lying on a glacier going through the ocean of ordeal; chewing on broken glass; feeling the slow tightening of the rusty screws of emotions, which dissect your mental stability - the entelechy of Yanagihara's "A Little Life".
A little capture of a long life full of melancholy, tragedy, and hopelessness. The cinematic depiction of the mundane routines that hide the suffocating mourning over someone's existence.
However, as far as the renaissance of my snobbishness goes, the main character's life is a palimpsest of trauma, layering one tragic event over another, so the narrative becomes the strategic move of the author to make the reader emotionally suffer. And Yanagihara gets what she intends to; the plot is primitive in its ideas and tropes, but the language draws you in, keeping you engaged till the last page.
